What “Gas Safe registered” actually means for you
The Gas Safe Register is the official list of businesses legally permitted to work on gas appliances in the UK. It replaced CORGI in 2009. Working on gas without being on it is a criminal offence, and unregistered work is behind a large share of carbon-monoxide incidents in British homes.
A registered engineer carries an ID card with their photo, their licence number and the specific categories they are assessed for: combustion, boilers, cookers, fires. The card has an expiry date on the back. Ask to see it at the door, every time, whoever is standing there. A good engineer will hand it over before you finish the sentence.
You can check any number yourself on the register's own website, which is the point of the scheme: the badge on a website means nothing, the number does.

Sometimes the honest answer is a £180 thermostat rather than a £2,400 boiler, and we would rather say so than sell you the bigger job.
The short version
The first van went out from a lock-up in Kirkstall in 1989, fitting back-boilers into terraces that mostly still had them. The yard is the same one today, a few doors along. The second generation runs it now, which mainly means the paperwork went digital and the tea order got more complicated.
